Who we are...

            The Melbourne Institute of Language Studies Aid Abroad (MILSAA) is the charity outreach arm of the non-profit educational institution, The Melbourne Institute of Language Studies (MILS).  Our mission is to create lasting change in the lives of children, families and communities living in poverty in Indonesia. 

MILSAA creates change in many ways:

·         By providing essential materials

MILSAA distributes raw materials needed for a child’s survival and learning, such as books, food, vitamins and sanitation, throughout schools and orphanages.

·         By providing education

 As remote areas often are the most lacking in educational resources, our qualified teachers and trained volunteers travel to these remote target areas throughout Indonesia. We focus on providing practical, job-ready skills and leadership training to young people. 

·          Through education and cultural immersion

 MILSAA serves to improve relations and understanding between the West and Indonesia, in an attempt to combat ignorance and extremism. We are helping to create a world in which more people understand, respect and support one another.

 

            MILSAA is a bridge between those who have resources and those who need them, helping to change lives on both sides in order for all of earth’s people to live life in all its fullness.  MILSAA is a catalyst, challenging all to believe and act on their belief- that their commitment can’t help change the world for the better.  

 

 

            We Partner...

            We partner with all who are called to serve, especially with the poor and the oppressed, for promoting community transformation through improvement of the quality or life of boys and girls with dignity, justice, peace and hope for their futures.

 

          Dimensions of MILSAA...

Child survival- We strive for girls and boys to have fair access to housing, health services, safe water, sanitation and hygiene, food security and nutrition.

Child development- We strive to provide girls and boys with additional education, to have life skills, values, cultural awareness and good relationships with their environment.

 

 

            By helping to providing both the essentials for living, as well as additional understanding and practical skills, MILSAA helps facilitate and enable people to discover and use their own ideas and skills to move from poverty to self-sufficiency.  Having the skills to make an income gives children, young adults and eventually communities the opportunity to escape from poverty, a task that is overbearing without help from outside.

 

 

            Funding of MILSAA...

Because our administration costs are sustainably funded by the Melbourne Institute, 100% of your personal contribution goes directly to helping communities we have partnerships with, allowing us to be completely transparent with how and where your money is used.

 

The provision of materials and resources to communities is 100% funded from private donations.   We receive no government funding; indeed many of our projects aim to supplement the substandard facilities provided by the Indonesian Government. 

 

            How to help...

There are many ways to help.

·         You can donate an amount of your choosing through Paypal.

This money will be used responsibly by MILSAA to buy goods and supplies that are needed most.

·         You can buy a gift for a community.

If you would like your donation to be used to purchase a gift of your choosing, you can do so by viewing our ‘Most Useful Gifts’ page for products that have been requested from our partner orphanages and communities.

·         You can volunteer.

If you would like to donate your time and get your hands dirty, that too is in need. To find out more about how you can volunteer for a week or a month please contact MILSAA by email.

          Most useful gifts-

 

Our most useful gift store is a way of interactively donating to orphanages we support. A way of giving you the ability to choose an item which is sought after by different orphanages.  Although each transaction on this website is simply a monetary donation to MILSAA, the funds will now be earmarked for the item(s) of your choosing.  In addition to this, since all transactions for this store are charitable donations, this means that you will also receive receipt for each transaction to be used for tax write offs. 

For those of you who would like fundraise for a particular item, please contact us, and we will be happy to hold the item from the store for you.
